Aluminum vs Steel Under Body Armour

Aluminum vs Steel Under Body Armour

Q: How do I know if aluminum armor is right for me?

A: If your adventures lean more toward overlanding or the occasional off-road trip, and you want reliable protection for those “just-in-case” moments, aluminum armor is the perfect fit — strong, lightweight, and built to keep you moving. But if you’re charging through hardcore trails every weekend and expect to take heavy hits, steel is the tougher choice to handle that level of abuse.

Q: What are the benefits of Aluminum over steel?

A:

Weight: Aluminum is about one-third the weight of steel. With all the gear we carry on our rigs, it’s important to keep maximum load capacity in mind. Lighter armor means more capacity for people and equipment, plus better fuel economy and reduced tire wear.

Maintenance: Aluminum doesn’t rust like steel. In harsh climates and conditions, steel armor often needs repainting every 1–2 years. Aluminum, on the other hand, is virtually maintenance-free.
